Primarily nocturnalespecially during hot months. They spend 95% of their time underground in burrows or rock shelters. Slow-moving but capable of delivering a powerful and venomous bite when threatened. They are one of only two venomous lizard species in the world.

Physical Description

The Gila Monster is easily recognizable by its black body covered with dramatic pink, orange, or yellow bead-like scales in a reticulated pattern. It has a large, chunky body, powerful limbs with sharp claws, and a thick tail that stores fat reserves.
